Rev. Jonathan Li, ThD (University of Lund, Sweden) is an evangelical pastor who was educated in China and Europe, majoring first in economics and theology. He lived in the Nordic countries nearly 20 years before relocating to China in 2009. He was ordained as church minister in 2001 and is currently serving in Beijing International Christian Fellowship (BICF) as the lead pastor of the International Mandarin Church which is experiencing rapid growth. The congregation attendance quadrupled between 2009 and 2015 (from 200 to 1,200). During the period of covid, he and his team planted five house-churches in Beijing, and a church in Vancouver (2023). The online service participants grow up to 30,000+ people weekly. Though the church online platform was shut down many times by the authorities, there are still nearly 5,000 people joining online church every week. His church team has 12 paid staff members, including seven pastors.
Besides his pastoral role, he has served as the theological consultor for China at WCC 2009-2010, visiting scholar at Institute of World Religions, China Academy of Social Science 2006-2007. He did his post-doctoral work at University of Oxford in 2017. His academic publications include his doctoral dissertation In Search of Via Media between Christ and Marx. Currently, he serves as CEO/President of Institute for Advanced Studies of Chinese Christianity.
